Marisa is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science. She has a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and Nottingham Trent University, an MSc in Applied Computing and a PhD from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), former TU Dublin.
Her research interests and previous work are in the area of machine learning and computational linguistics. Her PhD involved the development of a language independent feature extraction method based on lexical richness measurements that can be applied to across languages to facilitate the analysis of multi and cross-lingual corpora. In particular, the task of authorship attribution for multilingual authors that write documents in different languages was explored. Other areas of research She is interested in are the study of unconscious bias in natural language systems such as in sentiment analysis systems and any process involving word embeddings.
